The Fulbright Specialist Program aims to provide a short-term, on-demand resource to international host institutions, giving them greater flexibility in how they participate with Fulbright. Specialists are strongly encouraged to continue to work with host institutions in the years following their initial exchange, creating opportunities for ongoing cooperation and consultancies.

PROCiência 2020, Incentive System for the Production of Scientific and Technological Knowledge of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, is aimed directly at companies (SMEs and Non-SMEs) and with the objective of strengthening the competitive capacity of the regional economy by boosting projects in strategic areas Research, Development and Innovation (R&D&I) in companies, between companies and the entities that make up the Regional System for the Development of Research, Technology, and Innovation (SRDITI) and Higher Education institutions, fully aligned with the objectives and priorities defined within the scope of the regional RIS3, in order to ensure a threshold of technological skills that allow the transformation of the knowledge generated into new products and services.

You should apply to this call if you are looking for support from EIC Pathfinder Open to realize an ambitious vision for radically new technology, with the potential to create new markets and/or to address global challenges. EIC Pathfinder Open supports early-stage development of such future technologies (e.g. various activities at low Technology Readiness Levels 1-4), based on high-risk/high-gain science-towards-technology breakthrough research (including ‘deep-tech).

This topic aims to enhance the prevention of and protection from the effects of maritime disasters.
Priority 1: Developing response capacity for marine pollution incidents; Priority 2: Enhancing regional and cross-sectoral coordination.

The EIC Accelerator Challenges supports companies (principally start-ups and SMEs) to scale up high impact innovations with the potential to create new markets or disrupt existing ones in identified areas of strategic relevance. The EIC Accelerator Challenges focus on innovations building on scientific discovery or technological breakthroughs (‘deep tech’) and where significant funding is needed over a long timeframe before returns can be generated (‘patient capital’).

The aim is to fund ambitious transnational RTD projects addressing materials research and innovation including materials for low carbon energy technologies, future batteries technology, and related production technologies. M-ERA.NET aims to strengthen the contribution of materials R&D to energy-related applications where applicable.

The present call targets projects on low-carbon technologies and processes in all sectors covered by Directive 2003/87/EC (the EU ETS Directive): Innovation in low-carbon technologies and processes in sectors listed in Annex I, including environmentally safe carbon capture and utilization (‘CCU’) that contributes substantially to mitigating climate change, as well as products substituting carbon-intensive ones produced in sectors listed in Annex I, environmentally safe capture and geological storage (‘CCS’) of CO2, and innovative renewable energy and energy storage technologies.

Central objective of this call is to develop and implement the pilot(s) of the European Master of Science (MSc) programme(s) for High Performance Computing (HPC). The graduate education programme(s) will focus HPC and HPC-usage. They will demonstrate the added value of a pan-European education programme, committed to academic excellence, that offers students an outstanding career perspective in international companies and research institutes.


The Call for Proposals is the official document that represents the opening of a new Erasmus+ year. The call defines, according to the Program Guide, the actions, the eligibility, the Budget and duration of projects, and the deadline for the submission of applications. The call covers 3 key actions (KA1 – Learning mobility of individuals; KA2 – Cooperation among organizations and institutions; KA3 – Support to policy development and cooperation) and Jean Monnet Actions.

April 26, 2021

The aim is to promote the internationalization of European clusters; facilitate the exchange of experiences; foster and encourage the participation of clusters in European programs. The sectors involved in this event are blue growth; tourism; energy, offshore; transport and logistics; ICT and digitalization; and the audiovisual sector. Program.


May 18-19, 2021

Participate in the first official event in the area of Civil Security for Society in Horizonte Europa. This event is organized by the network of NCPs SEREN4 in cooperation with the EU Commission and the Research Executive Agency (REA). Topics such as the first calls of Cluster 3, the rules for participation, and horizontal aspects will be covered, all presented by COM and REA. Find out about opportunities for research centers, universities, industry, SMEs, civil society organizations, and for all stakeholders in the Security area. May 19-20, 2021

Challenges & Prizes

Deadline: May 5, 2021

The challenge is to build a fully functional, bench-scale prototype of an artificial photosynthesis based system which is able to produce a useable synthetic fuel. Expected Impact: a number of innovative devices and systems demonstrating the use of sunlight to produce a fuel ready to be used.

Energy - This category recognises organisations that can demonstrate innovative, impactful and inspirational sustainability solutions in the areas of energy that include, but are not limited to: ensuring access to affordable and reliable clean energy; increasing production of clean energy; improving energy efficiency; introducing new forms of clean energy or other technology innovations. Water - This category recognises organisations that can demonstrate innovative, impactful and inspirational sustainability solutions in the areas of water that include, but are not limited to: ensuring access to safe and affordable drinking water; ensuring access to sanitation and hygiene; increasing water use efficiency; improving water quality. The Alberto Romão Dias Prize was established by the Portuguese Society of Chemistry (SPQ) in 2009 to recognize a chemist, who by his scientific work and leadership has decisively contributed to the advancement of inorganic and organometallic chemistry in Portugal.

As part of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of Alfredo da Silva's birth, the Amélia de Mello Foundation and COTEC Portugal will support scientific research projects in the field of technological innovation, mobility and industry.

The challenge is to develop a European technologically non-dependent solution for launching light satellites into Low-Earth Orbit (LEO), which will enable dedicated low-cost launches with committed schedule and orbit. The solution needs to be innovative, implementable, affordable in development and exploitation phases, and commercially viable. Prize: 10M€.


Deadline: June 30, 2021

The prize is awarded to the most talented women entrepreneurs from across the EU and countries associated to Horizon Europe, who have founded a successful company and brought innovation to market. In the ‘Women Innovators’ main category, three prizes of EUR 100 000 each are awarded to the women who, in the opinion of the jury, have excelled in all award criteria and stood out amongst the other applicants. In the second category, one prize of EUR 50 000 is awarded to a promising ‘Rising Innovator’ aged 30 or younger.

The European Capital of Innovation Awards will recognize the cities’ role as catalyzers of the local innovation ecosystem and will stimulate new activities aimed at boosting game-changing innovation.

The main objective of the prize is to develop an innovative solution that will allow tracking all commercial freight trains, from all railway undertakings, covering the whole European network. The aim is to provide real-time information about the train, accessible to all, including information on the location, departure, destination, composition, and punctuality.

Horizon Europe is the 9th EU Research & Innovation framework program [2021-2027] for a Green, Healthy, Digital, and Inclusive Europe. Innoviris and NCP Brussels have invited keynote speakers from the Brussels-Capital Region and the European Commission to officially launch this ambitious R&I program on Thursday, May 6 at 9 am.
