A call is open for 2 positions as Research Assistants in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science at ARDITI / Interactive Technologies Institute (ITI/Larsys) in Madeira (Funchal, Portugal), under “Project BASE – BAnana SEnsing” approved and co-financed by “Programa de Desenvolvimento Rural da Região Autónoma da Madeira – PRODERAM 2020”, “Regional Government of Madeira”, “Portugal 2020” and by the “EU-Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Rural”.
The research group of Prof. Morgado Dias (ARDITI / Interactive Technologies Institute (ITI/Larsys and UMa) is looking for candidates for project “BASE – BAnana SEnsing”, in Signal Processing with Artificial Intelligence techniques to analyze the development and maturation bananas.
In this context, ARDITI - ITI/Larsys is looking for 2 Research Assistants, with background in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
The purpose of this work is to: (1) Extract the most relevant features to predict the development of bananas and develop a model to predict its maturation ahead. (2) Apply Deep Learning and CNNs to estimate the same development.
Candidates should meet the following requirements, skills and competences:
A. A Master degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Computer Engineering (preferred) or similar areas, completed before arrival.
B. Must be registered as a student, in a doctoral program (PhD student) or in a non-academic degree course integrated in the educational project of a higher education institution;
C. Good oral and spoken English as well as good communication skills. TOEFL or IELTS scores are encouraged. At least the English proficiency that fulfills the requirements of CSC applications is necessary.
D. Teamwork spirit.
E. Self-motivation and independent working ability.
F. Knowledge of and research experience related to the above fields are strongly preferred.
G. Previous published work is a preference factor.
