‍NATIONAL CALLS

Deadline: February 26, 2021, 17:00 Lisbon time

FCT published the notices for the submission of applications to the next Scientific Employment Stimulus Calls for Individual and Institutional modalities. The two competitions correspond to the opening of more than 700 vacancies for contracts with doctoral researchers.


Applications for the 4th edition of the Competition to Encourage Individual Scientific Employment (CEEC Individual) will take place between January 29 and February 26, 2021; while applications for the 2nd edition of the Stimulus for Institutional Scientific Employment Competition (CEEC Institucional) will take place between February 17 and April 16, 2021.


Deadline: March 10, 2021, 17:00 Lisbon time

Aiming at promoting and strengthening the competencies of scientific and technological institutions through the participation of their teams in Projects, FCT will open a call for proposals for financing projects in all scientific domains. The call will support projects in all scientific fields that fall into the following types: Scientific research and technological development projects (IC&DT) and Exploratory research projects (PeX). Open for submissions from January 28, 2021.


Deadline: 1st phase - from December 10 to February 4, 2021, 23:59 Lisbon time; 2nd phase - from February 5 to July 30, 2021, 17:00 Lisbon time

PROCiência 2020, Incentive System for the Production of Scientific and Technological Knowledge of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, is aimed directly at companies (SMEs and Non-SMEs) and with the objective of strengthening the competitive capacity of the regional economy by boosting projects in strategic areas Research, Development and Innovation (R&D&I) in companies, between companies and the entities that make up the Regional System for the Development of Research, Technology, and Innovation (SRDITI) and Higher Education institutions, fully aligned with the objectives and priorities defined within the scope of the regional RIS3, in order to ensure a threshold of technological skills that allow the transformation of the knowledge generated into new products and services.

FCT and the Fulbright Commission are promoting a joint scholarship program - Fulbright Research Grants. These scholarships are intended for doctoral scholarships directly financed by FCT who have planned, within the scope of their training plan, to conduct a research period at a North American university or research center.

This is an extra call for projects under EUROSTARS 2, a joint program between the EUREKA Network and the European Commission. The initiative is aimed at companies and non-corporate entities in the Research & Innovation system that wish to develop new products, processes or services close to the market in international collaboration, facilitating access to new international markets.


Deadline: February 16, 2021, 17:00 Brussels time

The grants offered to SMEs in this blue economy window call for proposals shall help advance market-readiness of new products, services or processes. Activities could, for example, include trials, prototyping, validation, demonstration and testing in real environment conditions, and market replication.

Call for Proposals seeking Smart Farming solutions that leverage digital technology innovations that have the potential to drive positive impact for smallscale producer entrepreneurs delivered through bundled farmer services and enabled by scalable digital and data platforms.

The present call targets projects on low-carbon technologies and processes in all sectors covered by Directive 2003/87/EC (the EU ETS Directive): Innovation in low-carbon technologies and processes in sectors listed in Annex I, including environmentally safe carbon capture and utilisation (‘CCU’) that contributes substantially to mitigating climate change,as well as products substituting carbon intensive ones produced in sectors listed in Annex I, environmentally safe capture and geological storage (‘CCS’) of CO2, and innovative renewable energy and energy storage technologies.


Deadline: June 23, 2021 17:00 Brussels time

EVENTS

Horizon Europe: CoLab Info Sessions

ANI, within the scope of the Collaborative Laboratories monitoring program (CoLAB), will promote a set of thematic sessions to present funding opportunities in the new European Union Research and Innovation Framework Program, Horizon Europe.

The sessions, which will take place in digital format, aim to foster greater interaction between the CoLAB and the National Contact Points in each thematic area, in order to clarify doubts about possible applications to the Horizonte Europa program.

A new wave of environmentally responsible robots is envisioned, by merging bioinspired soft robotics, material science, nanocomposite technologies, and environmental science. These “green robots” will be developed to better integrate into the natural ecosystem and react accordingly to changes by varying their structural, physiological or behavioural features, to operate environmentally friendly in natural scenarios and support the challenge of biodiversity and climate protection.

The challenge is to build a fully functional, bench-scale prototype of an artificial photosynthesis based system which is able to produce a useable synthetic fuel. Expected Impact: a number of innovative devices and systems demonstrating the use of sunlight to produce a fuel ready to be used.


Deadline: March 31, 2021

This competition aims to create two large-scale scientific centers in two locations in East Germany and to increase the relevance and scientific transformation of the East of Germany, introducing new modes of cooperation between science and industry.

The competition is mainly aimed at renowned scientists of any nationality who seek to support German innovation by incorporating scientific excellence into new marketable products and services. To participate, candidates must have an innovative idea for the creation of a research center and, in a second phase, present a viable plan for its implementation.
From the applications submitted, the best proposal for each location will be selected, to which the German Ministry, depending on the success of the new centers, will allocate an annual financing of up to 170 million euros. More information here.

The challenge is to develop a European technologically non-dependent solution for launching light satellites into Low-Earth Orbit (LEO), which will enable dedicated low-cost launches with committed schedule and orbit. The solution needs to be innovative, implementable, affordable in development and exploitation phases, and commercially viable. Prize: 10M€.

The main objective of the prize is to develop an innovative solution that will allow tracking all commercial freight trains, from all railway undertakings, covering the whole European network. The aim is to provide real time information about the train, accessible to all, including information on the location, departure, destination, compositition and punctuality.
