ARDITI – Regional Agency for the Development of Research, Technology and Innovation – hereby opens a call for one (1) Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (BIPD) within the scope of the SEA4FUTURE Project (GA101212647), under the following conditions:

This fellowship is funded by the project: “SEA4FUTURE (Sustainable and Ecosystem-based Approach for Fisheries through the Utilization of Technology to Uphold Resilient Environments)” (Grant Agreement GAP-101212647), financed by the Horizon Europe Programme.
Eligible Applicants
The fellowship is intended for PhD holders in Biological Sciences or related fields.
Applicants may be:
- Portuguese citizens or citizens of other EU Member States
- Third-country nationals
- Stateless persons
- Political refugees
Additional Requirements
Applicants must:
- Hold a PhD obtained within the last three years prior to application
- Have their degree recognized in Portugal (if obtained abroad)
- Not require prior postdoctoral experience
- Ensure the research duration does not exceed three years
- Not exceed a total of three years in this type of fellowship (including renewals)
Admission Requirements
Mandatory
- PhD obtained within three years before the application deadline
- Recognition of foreign degrees (if applicable)
Preferred
- Relevant experience in marine biology, ecology, or fisheries management
- Experience in applied fisheries research
- Knowledge of island and coastal systems
- Participation in international projects
- Experience in ecological and fisheries data analysis
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary and international teams
- Strong scientific communication skills in English (oral and written)
- Experience engaging with local communities and stakeholders
Work Plan
The selected researcher will:
- Coordinate the Madeira case study within the SEA4FUTURE project
- Ensure coordination between consortium partners, fishing communities, and regional authorities
- Lead stakeholder engagement and field data collection
- Collaborate with local fishers on ecological data gathering and monitoring
- Coordinate testing of innovative fishing technologies and gear
- Evaluate fishing gear configurations and bycatch reduction technologies
- Supervise local teams and integrate results with consortium partners
- Prepare technical/scientific reports and disseminate results to stakeholders and policymakers
Duration
- 36 months (expected start date is June 1, 2026)
- Renewable up to a maximum of 3 years
Monthly Grant
- €1901 (tax-free)
- Paid monthly via bank transfer
